DIY with Doilies!

Ok, so I've been meaning to do this tutorial for a while and finally got around to it this week with some extra free time I had!

Last year, my family recieved a bunch of family history from Slovakia (yes, thats in Europe!) after my dad's great uncle passed away and left some of his possessions to him. The packages included crosses of all different forms and sizes, and lots of doilies! We were able to put some of the crosses on display in our basement, but for the most part, we haven't really found the right place for the doilies...until now! Below are super easy steps to giving that sentimental piece a useful place a little closer to your heart (or shoulder!).

 

Pin the doilie (or lace) in desired positon on sweater

Sew the embellishment on, following the edge carefully.

Done!

you could wear it with anything really (especially a pair of happy shoes) !

FALLing...

Hey guys and happy Fall! Hope you are all enjoying wearing sweaters and gloves again! I just love this time of year. Especially in Colorado, where all the aspen trees turn yellow and everywhere you go looks like a picturesque scene of autumn. We've been breaking out the blankets and hot chocolate lately with temperatures under 35 degrees! I hate how the cold freezes your toes and fingers, but wouldn't trade the feeling of getting all cozy with a friend and a movie when its cold outside for anything. :) Here are some pictures I took today with Moushka outside-she was having a blast with all the leaves!

I always love being able to discover new designers that aren't always the most popular and that really catch my attention with some signature pieces! I love all of the mint, and coral hues for spring 2013 as well as how unique each of the collections are. Stay happy and have a good week! :)

Hydrangeas of Cape Cod

This summer my family and I visited one of the East Coast's most quaint and fun places ever-Cape Cod, MA, of course! We got to enjoy 14 days of ice-cream, lobster, salty waves, and shopping! (notice how the first two things i mentioned were food!) Overall, I thought it was a great way to relax, and reconnect with our grandparents. This summer, I found a new interest in all of the hydrangea flowers all over the Cape. Apparently, Cape Cod is sort of famous for them! Anyways, I totally fell in love with the look of them, and what makes them even more unique is that their color is different based on the acidity of the soil! Nerdy biology moment! :) So, I've pretty much decided that these will be the flowers I will use in my wedding, and I hope you enjoy all of the flowers I took pictures of as much as I do!

Colorado Chic

Just some pictures from today! We went to our friends' wedding and it was absolutely gorgeous. It was very simple yet elegant and the way everything worked out really reminded me personally that all it takes to have a special moment, like getting married for instance, is your loved ones. Now, that mind sound really cheesy but when you think about it, you don't need a huge cake or super fancy dress! Anyways (sorry getting side tracked), when we got back I wanted to do a quick post about the unique Coloradan style, so here it is! I find it so interesting to see how people dress based on the way they live and where they live-it was something my mom brought up today that I've been thinking about! Colorado in general, as the way my mom puts it, is definitley more relaxed style-wise but we can clean up pretty well, too! This whole idea of a state-based style made me want to create a spin on the cowgirl/western-stereotype and glam it up with some colorful short and sparkly french-tip nails (from the wedding :) ).  The jean shirt I'm wearing is from Miley Cyrus's new brand but I got it at Plato's Closet, and my shorts are from Target! Enjoy! :)

YSL Exhibit at the Art Museum!

On Tuesday, I went to the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit with my mom, her friend and daughter, and my friend! We had an amazing time-if you live near Denver, then you should definitley consider visiting the Denver Art Museum! Its also showing in Madrid and Paris. I loved the way everything was shown chronologically, ending with a gorgeous ballroom display of all of the extravagant dresses he created (like the one used in the logo-thingy above). They had recreations of his office and work spaces that were all super inspiring! It was all tied together with a great audio program that allowed you press a number correllating to a number shown either with a garment or display, and hear an in-depth description of eveything that particular piece involved! Unfortunately, pictures inside the exhibit weren't allowed, but I was able to get some at another part of it that had all sorts of hands-on fashion activities to do! We were able to make a moodboard using magazines and swatches, sketch a look, drape fabric on mannequins, dress up, and walk the runway! :)

These were really cool-they're called Harumika Dolls!

We had soo much fun! Its a great way to spend a summer afternoon downtown and you'll feel so inspired and cultured after learning more about Yve Saint Laurent's life and works!
